Gasoline Blending Plus

ASTM Distillation Loss

High distillation loss occurs when the gasoline contains butane with insufficient pentane to hold back the butane.  Effects of isobutane, normal butane and pentanes are quantified in a 1992 OGJ article .  (Reference 8)   The percentage of C4+C5 in a blend was found to be tracked closely by the ASTM Distillation % Evaporated at 149°F.

For low RVP gasolines, % loss should not be a problem except perhaps for a blend of alkylate and heavy reformate pressurized with isobutane.
