Doing Your Own Blending Study In order to cover the complete composition range, the interaction design should be used. Tests are required on all 50:50 blends. Depending on the number of components, the study can be quite large. The number of blends will be n(n-1)/2. With ten components, there would be 10(9)/2 or 45 blends. For good results, it is essential that the study receive close technical attention. Blends must be made carefully and compositions confirmed analytically, perhaps by density. Blend or sample mix-ups are a no-no. Octanes should be tested by experienced people. If a new component is added, or if octane levels change significantly, results can become out of date. Typically refineries have carried out new blending studies every few years. The cost of carrying out a blending study should include the cost of missing other refinery improvements due to diversion of scarce technical attention. The price of the BLENOC program is listed along with prices of other programs. See Prices. |
